This book is a mixture of romance, comedy, and fantasy. So basically it’s got all the things I love in it. The authors name is Sharon Creech, and I’ve got to say, when I first saw the book I thought it was about aliens. I didn’t even bother reading the back to see what it was about, I saw the cover and ran the opposite direction. The main thing that grabbed my attention in the book was the adventure of Sal and Phoebe. The very beginning of the book told me that everything would be ok with their friendship, or at least that’s what I thought at first, but as the book went on I thought “You know what she could be dead, all because of her imagination!” I realized half way through the book, though; they couldn’t get rid of her, other ways they would have said she was dead in the beginning. This book is really for all ages, anyone from age 6 to age 80 would love the way everything was so true! Not as in it was a true story, but the fact that tons of families all around the world have gone through stuff like that, and no story is the same, but the fact that it brings things that happen all the time really show the writing quality.
This story is defiantly intriguing, every time I turned the pages I was shocked by what happened next, but in a good way. Every little thing Sal did, or what phoebe said, it was just like regular girls going through problems. Every time Sal and Ben shared a moment, it was kind of like I was the only one who knew about their secret love or in their case huge crush on each other. That’s one reason that the characters were so well written, not because of the love interests, but because each drew me into the book in different ways. Like Gramps and Gram, every time they stopped telling the story to catch up with the other characters I’ve got to admit I was completely bored and I seriously wanted to skip pages so I could keep reading about the adventure, but those two characters kept me going. I loved how this book just kept you coming back for more, how it just kept you guessing. I did not like, however, how phoebes parents always acted. Yes some parents really are strict, but when phoebes’ mother left she would not listen to her father, no matter what you should be able to trust your parents, even if they leave. I’m really glad this was our assignment this term, I probably wouldn’t have picked it up unless I was told to, but I’m really glad I did. I would so recommend it to all of my friends, and family members.
